Before Chelsea

Đorđe Petrović began his senior career with Čukarički in Serbia before moving to MLS club New England Revolution in 2022. There, he quickly established himself as one of the league’s best goalkeepers, earning widespread praise for his reflexes, penalty-saving ability, and command of the box. He was named a 2023 MLS All-Star and was viewed as a top emerging talent in goalkeeping. Chelsea signed him in the summer of 2023 as part of a reshuffle in their goalkeeping department following Édouard Mendy’s departure and the arrival of Robert Sánchez.

2023–24 Season

Petrović began the season as Chelsea's second-choice keeper behind Robert Sánchez. However, after Sánchez suffered a knee injury in December, Petrović was handed his debut in the EFL Cup quarter-final against Newcastle, where he made a decisive penalty shootout save. He went on to make a strong impression during his run in the first team, displaying sharp reflexes, composure under pressure, and excellent shot-stopping. Petrović kept 7 clean sheets in 31 appearances and was praised by fans and pundits for his maturity and calm presence. Though Sánchez returned to fitness later in the season, Petrović retained his spot for several matches and appeared in key cup games, helping Chelsea reach the EFL Cup final.

Loan to Strasbourg and departure

In the summer of 2024, Petrović was loaned out to Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club in Ligue 1, to gain regular first-team experience. The move was seen as an opportunity for the Serbian keeper to continue developing with consistent game time in a competitive European league. Though no longer involved directly in Chelsea’s matchday squad, the club closely monitored his performances, viewing the loan as part of his long-term pathway to potentially becoming a future starter at Stamford Bridge.

However, he refused to fight for his place in the starting 11 after the season and Chelsea decided to sell him to Bournemouth in July 2025.

International

Djordje Petrović made his senior debut for Serbia in 2021. While not yet a regular starter, he has been called up several times as part of the national team setup.
