The 2012 FIFA Club World Cup Final was contested in Japan between 2012 Copa Libertadores winners Corinthians, from Brazil, and 2012 UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea. It was the Blues' first appearance in the final, while Corinthians had previously won the competition in 2000.
The match was the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, a FIFA-organised tournament between the winner clubs from each of the six continental confederations, as well as the league winner from the host nation. Chelsea had beaten Mexican side Monterrey 3-1 in the second semi-final, after Corinthians had beaten African champions Al-Ahly. The Brazilian side won the match courtesy of a goal from Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero mid-way through the second half.
