Arnold Jack Mayes (8 December 1913 — 1994) played for Chelsea immediately prior to the Second World War. A wing half, he was back up to Ulsterman Billy Mitchell and made occasional first team appearances before his career was cut short by the outbreak of hostilities in 1939. [1]
