Gary Robert Locke (born 12 July 1954 in Park Royal, London), is an English former right back who made over 300 appearances for Chelsea between 1972 and 1982. He moved to Crystal Palace in 1983 before playing overseas.

Chelsea career
Having joined Chelsea as an apprentice he turned professional ahead of the 1971-72 season, and made his debut as an 18-year-old in a 3-1 away win against Coventry City in September 1972. After just his second season as a first team player Locke was named Chelsea Player of the Year for the 1973-74 season, while still 19 years of age. He scored his first goal for the club in another early season 3-1 away win at Coventry City, just under two years after his debut in the same fixture. He went on to feature regularly for the Blues over the following decade during what was a challenging period for the club (amid financial trouble Chelsea were relegated, promoted and relegated again over this period), making 317 appearances in all competitions and scoring four goals.
After Chelsea
Locke signed for Crystal Palace in 1983, having previously joined the club on loan. He went on to make over 100 appearances in all competitions for the Eagles before signing for Swedish side Halmstads BK. After one season in Sweden he moved to New Zealand, joining Napier City Rovers in 1987 and helping them to a first national league title in 1989. He later played for recently-formed New Zealand side Waikato United, narrowly missing out on another league title in 1992. [1]
