Giovanni Mauri was a first team fitness coach at Chelsea during the 2010-11 season, having been hired by long-term associate Carlo Ancelotti, whom he worked with at both Parma and AC Milan. In addition to his experience in Italy, he had also worked with cycling teams and with teams in Switzerland in his 25 years in professional sport.
