Chelsea career
Like many other professionals of his era, Jock Hutcheson had played junior football whilst a miner in Scotland. Having moved south from Falkirk in March 1934, he made his debut on 7 April against Birmingham. He spent most of his time at Chelsea as a stalwart of the reserves, with occasional forays in the first team as an able deputy for English and Northern Irish international colleagues in midfield. His career was cut short by cartilage trouble and he was paid compensation by the Football League.
After Chelsea
Hutcheson continued to play in the Southern League and FA Cup for Ipswich Town, and latterly for Crittall Athletic, a works based team in Silver End, Essex. Following retirement from playing he lived in the village until he passed away in the latter part of the century.
