Rati Aleksidze is a Georgian international striker who made three appearances for Chelsea during the 2000-01 season; all as a substitute.
Club career
Aleksidze started his career as a teenager in his home city of Tbilisi, helping Dinamo to league titles in 1997, 1998 and 1999 as well as the 1997 cup. Aleksidze's record of 33 goals in 71 appearances, and especially the 12 goals in 14 games in the 1999-00 season, attracted interest in the young striker from major European clubs. He was taken on trial by Chelsea, who decided to sign him. Aleksidze was unable to break into the first team, however, as he only played in two league games, plus one European appearance; a 2-0 UEFA Cup loss to Swiss side St. Gallen. Released after a year by Chelsea in September 2001, he eventually returned to Dinamo where he scored nine goals in the first season following his return. In 2004 he was bought by Russian team FC Rostov, but he failed to make an impact and returned to Georgia; ostensibly to retire from professional football. In July 2008 he made a comeback, playing for FC Lokomotivi Tbilisi, before joining Hungarian club Győri ETO FC in January 2009.
International
Having appeared regularly for Georgia's U17 and U21 sides, Aleksidze went on to represent his country in 28 senior internationals as of July 2011, scoring two goals.
