Chelsea and Sheffield United contested the 1915 FA Cup final at Old Trafford on 24 April 1915, with Sheffield United winning 3-0. This was Chelsea's first appearance in an FA Cup Final, just ten years after foundation.
Chelsea had struggled in the league and finished one place from bottom in the First Division, but David Calderhead's side performed heroics to reach the Cup final, including overcoming English champions-elect Everton in the semi-final.
The match was termed the 'Khaki Final' as most of the crowd at Old Trafford were members of the armed forces. The venue for the final was also changed to Old Trafford to prevent disruption of war work in London, and the attendance of about 50,000 was lower than previous years as a result of wartime travel restriction and the mobilisation of large numbers of young men into the armed forces. This was the last final before the First World War, with Cup and League competitions subsequently suspended until 1919.
