Before Chelsea
Born in Addison, Illinois, in May 2004, Gabriel Slonina began his career in the Chicago Fire Academy. He made history by debuting in Major League Soccer at just 17 years old, becoming the youngest goalkeeper to start and keep a clean sheet in MLS. His performances quickly established him as one of the sport’s most exciting young goalkeepers.
Chelsea career
Slonina signed for Chelsea on 2 August 2022 but remained on loan at Chicago Fire for the rest of the season. During this period, he continued to build experience and maturity between the sticks, preparing for his transition to European football.
In summer 2023, he was loaned to Belgian side K.A.S. Eupen, where he became the first-choice goalkeeper and featured in 34 matches as Eupen battled relegation.
Chelsea loaned Slonina to Barnsley in League One for the season. He appeared in 14 matches before a mid-season injury cut his campaign short. Despite the setback, his professionalism and potential continued to earn praise.

After representing the United States at youth levels—including U20 World Cup and Olympic squads—Slonina earned his senior debut for the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2023.
